A man is confused because his girlfriend doesn’t want him to go to a “fancy restaurant” without her.
He asked Reddit’s “Am I the A******? (AITA)” forum for advice. There’s a restaurant with three Michelin stars he wants to go to. He got a reservation for four and invited his girlfriend. But when she found out it would be $500 per person, she declined.
So he invited a different friend, and they plan to go together. Now his girlfriend is upset, but he can’t quite figure out why. He says she won’t clarify why, only that she calls him “inconsiderate.”
When he confronted her about it, she told him to go without her and that she shouldn’t have to explain why he was being inconsiderate.
“I don’t know if she expects me to pay or if she expects me to not go at all. I do not find either of those solutions to be reasonable,” he explained.
People thought his girlfriend was being immature and manipulative.
“She’s trying to manipulate you,” a person commented.
“I would re-evaluate being with someone that plays childish games like this,” another wrote.
“She’s being passive aggressive. She can flat out say she can’t afford it, leaving it up to you to counter with offering to pay. Or not,” a Redditor said.
