In-laws tell couple they’re ‘ruining Christmas’ for refusing to come to dinner: ‘Stubbornness on another level’

A woman was accused of “ruining Christmas” by her mother-in-law for opting out of a pizza dinner.

She explained what happened on Reddit’s “Am I the A******? (AITA)” forum. Her husband’s family has an annual Christmas eve dinner at a pizza restaurant

But she is allergic to dairy, and the restaurant told her they have no dairy-free options. Last year, much to her mother-in-law’s chagrin, she skipped the dinner while her husband attended.

Since then, her husband discovered he was lactose intolerant. He suggested to his mother that everyone make homemade pizzas. But his mom refused and said the Reddit poster was “ruining their families tradition.”

Now, the Reddit poster and her husband are refusing to attend the pizza dinner.

“We were told we are ruining Christmas for the whole family,” she wrote. “I’m starting to wonder if I’m being too stubborn and we should just go to the restaurant to make everyone else happy.”

Redditors thought the poster and her husband were in the right.

“Thats stubbornness on another level,” a user said

“You and your husband offered a good compromise, it’s on your MIL if she refuses to accept that,” another wrote

“Why is this restaurant so important to them that it comes before family?” a person commented
