Man taken aback by pregnant girlfriend’s major request: ‘[It’s] just something that I’m not ready for’

A 19-year-old isn’t sure what to do now that his dating prospect is pregnant with someone else’s child

He asked Reddit’s “Relationship Advice” forum for help. The girl he has been casually dating told him she was expecting. She also asked him to be in the child’s life. But playing house doesn’t interest the Reddit poster.

“I have been going out with this girl for about a month,” he explained. “We go to college together, and the relationship isn’t very serious yet, although I do see her every day. Last night after we finished watching a movie, she told me she had some news.”

“She told me she was pregnant (not my child), and I was surprised, to say the least. She told me that she wants a relationship with me and that she wants me to be in this kid’s life.”

Now he isn’t sure how to tell her he just wants to be friends.

“Keep in mind that we’ve only known each other for about a month. Our relationship has never gotten ‘physical,'” he said. “I haven’t even asked her to be my girlfriend yet.”

“I really like this girl, and I’ll gladly be friends with her, but having the role of a father is just something that I’m not ready for. How do I tell this girl I don’t want a romantic relationship without being a complete a****** toward her?”

“You need to totally exit from the relationship. Totally and completely,” a person wrote

“You need to completely cut her off!” another said

“Be honest, tell her you didn’t sign up for a child,” a user suggested
