Reese’s releases traveling ‘Trick-or-Treat Door’ to safely hand out candy

Reese’s is trying to save Halloween with a very spooky door.

While many are staying in this year thanks to the pandemic, Reese’s found a way to make the holiday hands-free. The Reese’s Trick-or-Treat Door is a traveling robot door that dispenses candy.

“This Halloween is unlike any other, so we’ve upped the ante on creativity as a result,” said Allen Dark, Reese’s senior brand manager. “A robotic Reese’s dispensing door is just what the world needs right now!”

According to a Morning Consult poll, while most recognize Halloween in 2020 won’t be the same, 63 percent of adults believe it can be salvaged through creativity. This is certainly one way.

The orange, 9-foot Reese’s door is made to navigate neighborhoods via a remote control system. Residents will know when the door is approaching because it emits smoke, glows and plays Halloween-themed music. Reeses debuted the door in Brookhaven, Pa. where a few excited kids got to claim their candy before Halloween day.

The robot is powered by three motors and controlled by humans up to 5,000 feet away. To activate it, simply say the words “trick or treat,” and a king-size Reese’s candy bar is dispensed through the door’s “mail slot.”
