Serena Williams shows her latest fashion collection with Anna Wintour

Serena Williams may be better known for her athleticism, but you can’t deny the tennis star has an eye for fashion. On more than several occasions, Williams has disrupted the game with her show-stopping looks — one was even banned. Off the court, however, she’s ventured into designing clothes for the every day woman.

Williams launched S by Serena in 2018, and showed the collection for the first time at New York Fashion Week in September 2019 with guests including Kim Kardashian, LaLa Anthony and Ashley Graham in attendance. This spring, she took the models off of the traditional runway and invited guests into Spring Studios for a sit down interview with Anna Wintour.

During the one-on-on chat with fashion’s No. 1 player, Williams explained her love of fashion (she studied fashion at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale from 2000 to 2003), Serena Ventures, her love of nails and about the current collection.

“I wanted to do this different format so you guys could hear kind of about the designer a little bit, my mind and how I may or may not work upstairs,” Williams said before inviting her models out.

The small collection featured plenty of separates, including black leather pants with a matching blazer that could easily fit into our wardrobes. Many of the leather options in the collection, Williams noted, were “vegan leather” or faux, thanks to her belief in sustainability.

Other notable trends in the collection included iridescent sequins and giraffe print. One model wore a cap sleeve all-sequin jumpsuit with cut-outs on the side. Friend of Williams and tennis star Caroline Wozniacki closed the show with a fitted crop top and midi skirt in giraffe print.

Once the presentation was over, Williams walked backstage past a smiling Karlie Kloss and Derek Blasburg who snuck in sometime during the interview. Forgetting her mic was still on, Williams was heard telling her team that she thought it went well.

The S by Serena collection is sold on SerenaWilliams.com.
