Smoky cocktails that are sure to light your fire

If you’re looking for a fun way to step up your mixology game, try making a smoked cocktail! Adding smoke to cocktails can enrich their flavor and give new life to old favorites, making old standards like the Manhattan or old fashioned exciting again. While smoking cocktails might seem intimidating, it’s actually surprisingly easy, and the results are delicious. Here are five smoky cocktails that are sure to light your fire.

1. Smoked rosemary Negroni sour

This smoked rosemary Negroni sour is frothy and citrusy with an undertone of rich smoked rosemary flavor. To make it, place a sprig of rosemary on a fire-safe surface or cast iron pan, light it on fire, and place your glass over it. Next, make your cocktail out of gin, sweet vermouth, Campari, rosemary syrup, an egg white and a splash of fresh lemon and orange juice. Add ice and shake your cocktail. Then strain it into your glass and enjoy.

2. Cold brew cocktail with smoked cloves

This just might be the perfect autumn cocktail! To make it, place a glass over a few burning cloves until the smoke fills the glass. Meanwhile, in a separate glass, mix rum, cold brew, maple syrup, a pinch of cinnamon and ice. Once your glass is nice and smoky, pour in the cocktail mixture, garnish with a bit of orange rind, and take a sip of autumnal goodness!

3. Smoked cinnamon old fashioned

There’s nothing old fashioned about this flavorful smoked cinnamon old fashioned cocktail! To make it, start by igniting a stick of cinnamon and placing a glass over it. Then, in a separate tumbler or glass, mix bourbon, simple syrup and a few dashes of Angostura bitters. Finally, stir in some ice and strain the cocktail into the smoked cinnamon glass. Garnish the cocktail with the smoked cinnamon stick, giving it one last hint of smoke before serving.

This pomegranate cocktail is so refreshing! Start by torching some rosemary and placing your glass over it. Set the glass aside, and in a separate tumbler, mix vodka, pomegranate juice, lemon juice and ice. Once the glass is fully smoked, set the rosemary aside, coat the rim of the glass with lemon juice and sugar, and pour in your cocktail.

5. Smoked Manhattan

Class up your next Manhattan by smoking it! To make your smoked Manhattan, start by torching a smoking chip. (These are wood chips that are specially made for cocktails.) Place a glass over the chip, then mix bitters, sweet vermouth, rye and ice in a separate tumbler. Add the cocktail to the smoked glass, and garnish with a brandied cherry.
