Speech development is one of the most exciting and important parts of watching your little human grow. In this week’s episode of In The Know: Milestones, speech pathologist and mom of two Kristen Morita shares her insights on all things baby talk.
“Every time you talk to your baby, you’re giving them a model for what language is supposed to sound like,” Morita explains. “There’s not one way you have to [talk to your baby].”
When it comes to speech development, reading is fundamental, and it is a great way to develop your child’s language.
One book Morita recommends is Llama Llama Wakey Wakey Nighty Night. It’s a two-in-one storybook that helps your child get familiar with their everyday routine while also developing their speech skills.
Morita also advises parents to invest in It Takes Two To Talk. “This book is considered the holy grail of speech therapy books. So it’s written specifically for parents with children with language delays, but it works for all children,” Morita says.
Watching your child explore the world of language is nothing short of thrilling. With every new word, there’s something to celebrate.
