Starbucks’ employee dress code is changing for the first time in years

Known for its specifically detailed yet not necessarily strict dress code, Starbucks seems to be loosening the reins when it comes to what employees can or cannot wear.

Or in the company’s latest update, what they can and cannot pierce.

Starbucks shared in a statement to Business Insider:

“We believe the Starbucks Experience is best delivered when partners can bring their whole selves to work. Based on partner feedback, we have simplified our resources and approach to dress code to provide more clarity and make it easier for partners to select their wardrobe for work.”

Starbucks will now allow employees to wear one facial piercing “no larger than the size of a dime.”

The previous piercing policy is stated as:

“Keep earrings small or moderately sized. No more than two earrings per ear. Small ear gauges are allowed. A small nose stud is allowed (no septum piercings or rings). No other pierced jewelry or body adornments are allowed, including tongue studs.”

The current dress code also forbids face and neck tattoos, nail polish and colored hats.

Business Insider also reported that the new dress code will be limited to one-page as opposed to the current 15-page handbook.
