On this episode of 1K Dream Room, host Will Taylor (@brightbazaar) helps give Jarvis’s “bland” New York City bedroom a much-needed, colorful makeover with just one day to complete the task and a budget of $1,000. Jarvis loves his room’s open space and natural light, but hates “everything else about it.” Jarvis wants his bedroom to have a cozier feel, and fully trusts Will to make the decisions needed to add some personality to the room. Time to get to work!

Aiming for a balance of modern and rustic, Will starts off by adding a solid wood, low-profile bed which includes a tactile headboard, as well as two smooth, wooden nightstands with table lamps to complete the cozy, farmhouse look. A striped area rug adds a dash of rustic comfort to the floor, perfectly accenting the wood flooring.

Next, Will moves on to the previously bare walls, curating a lively gallery wall to fill the empty space. The key to making a stylish gallery wall, according to Will, is to mix up the types of pictures used, while ensuring that there’s a common thread to connect the pieces, which in this case was a black and white color palette.

Jarvis wants his room to feel “comfortable,” so Will makes that happen with a bold, cozy duvet cover set and an assortment of fluffy pillows. A collection of plants, candles and books help complete the cozy aesthetic, while baskets and lamps help add function and warmth.

Will completes the makeover with a rustic farmhouse dresser to serve as a centerpiece of the room, while a pair of linen-blend curtains help control the natural light in the space.

Upon entering his new bedroom, Jarvis is immediately taken aback by the amazing makeover. He loves that the room feels full and complete, while still maintaining a minimalistic and simple approach. He also loves how the new artwork adds a “comforting vibe,” and is impressed by all of the little details that went into the transformation. Overall, Jarvis is looking forward to waking up in a room that he’s truly excited about!
