On this episode of In the Know: Beauty School, celebrity makeup artist and host, Kirin Bhatty (@kirinstagram), shows us how to take lips from day to night, using some of her secret tricks of the trade and favorite products.

One trick to long-lasting lips is a good lip liner. Bhatty reaches for the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner to line and fill in the model’s lips, “because this will hold onto the lipstick longer,” explains the makeup artist.

For the day lip look, Bhatty uses CTZN Cosmetics Code Red Lipstick. She taps the lipstick onto the model’s lips “in a really soft way.” The goal here isn’t to fully apply the lipstick, but to just get it a little rough on the lips.

Next, Bhatty disperses the lipstick onto the lips using an eyeshadow brush. “I want you to think of yourself as a painter,” says Bhatty. “You’re just stippling on color until you get the color where you want it to be.” Once you’ve got the color you want, use a clean brush to clean up the edges with some concealer.

To go from day to night, Bhatty takes the lips up a notch by saturing the color and crisping up the lines to “really make it a perfect night look.”

Bhatty pumps up the lip color by now applying the lipstick directly to the lips—no eyeshadow brush required. Then, using a lip brush, Bhatty gets some lipstick on it and draws an X at the Cupid’s bow. She also uses the lip brush to define the corners of the lips.
Once she’s addressed the precision details, Bhatty goes over the lips once more with the lipstick, and cleans up with a sponge wherever necessary. “And there you have it,” announces Bhatty. “A perfect classic, crisp red lip for the evening.”
