One of the many amazing features on TikTok is the app’s numerous fun filters. Whether you want to pretend you’re teleporting to a tropical beach or recreate photos with your deceased loved ones, the app has a filter for pretty much everything you can imagine.
Recently, the TikTok filter taking the app by storm is the TED Talk filter. The effect allows users to create their own fictional TED Talk-esque speech with both an animated audience and a spotlight-lit stage.
The video begins with a close-up of a little animated person. The filter superimposes your face onto this person so it looks like you’re giving a speech. After a few seconds, the filter zooms out and shows an excited audience clapping for you while a video of yourself plays on the “screen” behind you.
Though TED Talks traditionally tackle serious issues like body language and leadership, TikTokers are using the TED Talk filter to parody the inspirational talks and instead dole out humorous (and slightly questionable) advice about how to save money on rent and how to catch a cheating boyfriend in the act.
How to use the TED Talk filter on TikTok
- Open Instagram and click the “+” in the top right corner to create a new post on your Instagram Story.
- Scroll through the filter options at the bottom of the screen until you reach the magnifying glass, where you can browse all of the effects.
- Type “TOD talk” in the search bar and click on the filter of the same name created by user @slimshader__. Select “Try It” in the bottom left corner to use the filter.
- Create your TED Talk video, then save the video to your camera roll and upload it to TikTok.
