When Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin co-founded the Home Edit together in 2015, they had a simple mission: Improve clients’ lives by decluttering and organizing their spaces. In the years since, their brand has become so much more than that: an entire lifestyle brand, a Netflix TV show (two seasons and counting), multiple product lines and, most recently, a podcast called Best Friend Energy.

Perhaps the most unexpected element of what their brand has become, especially since being acquired by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, is that fans of the Home Edit want more Clea and Joanna — they’ve fallen in love with the organizing content, for sure, but they also love the women responsible for making that content just as much.

For the latest episode of In The Know’s pop culture interview series, We Should Talk, Clea and Joanna opened up about their new podcast, the Home Edit’s inextricable tie to celebrity, how Hello Sunshine has impacted their business and much, much more.

Clea Shearer on her cancer battle:

Sharing my story has truly been very humbling. It’s been the honor of my lifetime. It’s really going to shape and change the way I live my life forever. Having the support of all my online friends, my real-life friends, my community around me has been really incredible. I don’t recommend it to anyone — I’m not trying to be like, “Go out there and see what it’s like!” But it’s really been a very special time with a lot of silver linings.

Joanna Teplin on watching Clea deal with cancer so fearlessly:

It’s been beyond incredible [to watch]. I’m so in utter amazement of Clea daily. It never ceases to amaze me. Honestly. She’s a pillar of strength, but she’s also so honest, so real, so authentic with what she’s going through, and it’s pure bravery and selflessness the way she’s sharing her story. It’s just incredible!

On their new podcast, Best Friend Energy:

Joanna Teplin: The only vibe we have is to be who we are and take the road that we end up going down.

Clea Shearer: We go down a rabbit hole, and people go down the rabbit hole with us. We want it to feel like we are all a community of friends, and everyone’s listening to each other. You might be in on the joke or new to the joke, but we’re all laughing together.
