Here’s what we know about JoJo Siwa’s upcoming musical, ‘The J Team’

Everybody’s favorite kid’s entertainer JoJo Siwa is the star of the new musical The J Team. 

The movie is based on the former Dance Moms star’s life and will feature original music. Siwa executive produced the film that was made in collaboration with Awesomeness and Nickelodeon. Here’s everything we know about The J Team. 

Who is “The J Team” cast? 

JoJo Siwa, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Laura Soltis, Julia Marley, Kerrynton Jones and Kiara T. Romero will appear in the movie.

What is “The J Team” about? 

The film follows a young girl named JoJo whose life changes when her dance coach Val retires. Val is replaced by a curmudgeonly instructor named Poppy who kicks JoJo out of the dance troupe. JoJo is forced to confront what dancing really means to her. 

“This musical is centered around my life and also centered around being yourself and centered around staying true to who you are,” Siwa said on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. “Even when the world is telling you, ‘It’s not gonna happen, it’s not gonna happen,’ you believing because you’re you. That’s what this movie’s all about.” 

“The J Team” will have original music

Siwa created 27 songs for the musical but picked the best six for the movie. It will also feature revamped versions of two of her past singles. 

Siwa executive produced “The J Team” 

As executive producer, the dancer made sure the film was authentic to her experience, she told Entertainment Weekly. 

“I said, ‘JoJo is JoJo. JoJo’s not a character. JoJo’s not a guinea pig. JoJo’s a human, and it’s me,'” Siwa said

Where will “The J Team” air? 

While the film is a Nickelodeon and Awesomeness production, it is set to stream on Paramount+ on September 3. 

A teaser for “The J Team” debuted in July 

The 20-second teaser features a ton of dancing and of course the rainbows and sparkles we’ve come to expect from Siwa.
