All hair types need time to refresh and reset. The latest Pattern Beauty Treatment Mask is a go-to wash day addition that can give life back to type 4 hair.

Pattern Beauty, founded by Tracy Ellis Ross, has only been around for a year and some change. However, its catalog is already filled with products for every step of your hair care routine from start to finish. The latest Treatment Collection from Pattern Beauty features a scalp serum as well as a hair mask that use ingredients like rice water ferment and moringa seed extract.

For curly, kinky and coily hair, what makes a good hair mask?

Healthy hair always starts at the scalp, hence the Pattern Beauty scalp serum. The best hair masks, however, really depend on what your goals are. What makes a good hair mask for type 4 hair? One that restores definition, moisture and the ability to penetrate the hair shaft overall.

I recently tried the Pattern Beauty Treatment Mask for myself. It’s not the intoxicating neroli scent that I’m used to from the rest of the line. However, it still smells super earthy and relaxing. Applying it to the hair is like applying any other jelly-like custard. Thankfully, a little goes a long way because I gooped and gooped handfuls of this stuff throughout my hair and with ease.

The treatment mask was great not only for giving my curls definition, but also length retention. You would have thought I had a type 3 curl pattern with this stuff in my hair. On the other hand, my hair felt stripped after rinsing it out.

The brand recommends using the Intense Conditioner or the Heavy Condition in conjunction with the new Treatment Mask, and I agree. My hair felt stripped after the mask and would have benefitted from sitting in a deep conditioner for a while.

Ultimately, I love how much stronger my hair felt after using the Treatment Mask, especially because my strands are bleached and dyed. My hair has more definition, plus I immediately noticed the added volume it gave me.

If you think hair masks are a scam, shoppers do have positive things to say about this one.

“I was so excited to try this and it did live up to my expectations,” one shopper wrote. “However, I thought it was a mask that you could use on its own, however when I rinsed it out my hair did feel a little dry. So then I put in my Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! mask for 10 minutes and then my hair felt so moisturized. My curls definitely looked more defined and elongated!”

Another shopper explained that they’ve even used it as a leave in product.

“I used this after my deep conditioning as a leave-in and needed no styling cream for my wash and go. Love it.”

You may think hair masks are all hype, but this one may prove otherwise.
