Walking into a mega beauty store like Sephora seems promising at first, until you can’t find the products that you want. If you’re a woman with dark skin, it can be especially difficult to find makeup products and lipsticks that are tailored for your skin tone. But there is a new beauty line doing their best to make sure you won’t have that problem again.

Founded by Black women KJ Miller and Amanda E. Johnson, Mented Cosmetics features an inclusive collection of lipsticks designed to accommodate a wide range of skin tones. No matter what complexion, Miller and Johnson wanted to ensure their cosmetics line would be a win for all women.

“We want all women, from light to tan to dark skin tones, to feel like they have makeup that actually works for their complexions, so we’ve created the shades to help accomplish that,” they wrote on the brand’s website.

The line also features other makeup goodies including, blushes, lip glosses and lip liners.

The two founded the company after they had no luck finding the “perfect nude lipstick” to compliment their dark skin tones. For those who have experienced that same exclusion in beauty products, you can test the waters with three of their most popular lipsticks in the Build Your Own Trio Lipstick.

Rated as one of Amazon’s Choice lipsticks, the Mented #5 is a combination of brown, pink and purple hues. Although matte lipsticks are famous for drying out the lips, this semi-matte lipstick helps hydrate the lips instead.

The Nude LaLa is similar to Mented #5, except this semi-matte is a blend of pink and brown hues.

Lastly, the Dope Taupe stands out as a true, all-matte lipstick. Beautiful in color, it’s also lightweight and non-drying.

If you’re unsure which shade suits you, the cosmetics line has a handy little shade finder so you can find that perfect nude lipstick match.
