Being in quarantine has forced people to find new ways to entertain themselves, which includes making and watching skincare videos. On YouTube, TikTok and beyond, creators have suggested (and filmed) some of their best picks for peeling off dead skin all over your body.
Though some experts frown upon peeling masks due to the pulling of the skin, others argue that it exfoliates. Speaking to Well and Good about the benefits of peel masks, dermatologist Rachel Nazarian, MD, explained: “The benefit of the peel-off mask is that it physically removes the top layer of skin, sloughing dull dead skin cells. This makes skin feel very smooth, and look dewy and glowy.” Though facial peel masks may be fine for those with (no pun intended) thicker skin, Nazarian warned that for more sensitive skin types, the sensation is basically like a wax removal.
There are some great feet masks out there that’ll have you satisfyingly removing your dead skin from your heels and toes. The ones you plan on using on your face should specifically remove toxins without totally stripping the skin, so look for masks with AHAs, retinol or charcoal. Here are just some of the top-rated peel masks circulating around the skincare world.
