The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Firefighter Jamie Cook’s 3-year-old daughter Darcey already takes after him. The little girl flexed her firefighting skills in a pretend rescue mission created by her dad — and her tactics were so impressive, the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service shared Cook’s video on Facebook.
“How cute is this video from on-call and whole-time firefighter Jamie Cook. Watch his daughter successfully respond to the on-call alerter, rescue the baby and extinguish the fire. There’s a job waiting for you as soon as you turn 18,” the caption said.
In the clip, Darcey hears the alarm go off before exclaiming, “Fire!” She bolts out the door into the backyard, dressed in protective gear (with adorably bare feet), and saves the toy baby first. Next, Darcey uses the hose to extinguish flames the family had drawn on the fence with chalk. The water washes away the drawing so it looks like she’s putting out the fire.
“I did it, daddy,” she declares. Cook is heard cheering her own out of frame. He told the Cambs Times Darcey has expressed an interest in his work for quite a while.
“Darcey often joins me and the rest of the crew at community events where we promote the role around the town, and she always helps at our car washes too,” Cook said. “We are hoping Darcey will bring her friends along and leads the next generation of firefighters at the station when she’s old enough. In the meantime, she is helping us recruit people for now.”
The video received over 100,000 views. Many Facebook users encouraged Darcey to stick with it.
“Fantastic work little one, well done. I bet your parents are proud,” one commented.
“My son was the same at this age. He’s now 24 and training to become a firefighter,” another said.
“Great, hope she keeps her interest, a future awaits her,” one person chimed in.
