This 5-year-old boxer is a bit of an internet sensation. Adeyemo Ayomide says his dream is to become a boxing champion someday, and that might be sooner rather than later. The Nigerian prodigy caught the eye of UFC heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou.
“I found the next Floyd Mayweather his name is Adeyemo Abdul Somod Ayomide,” Ngannou tweeted on February 3.
Adeyemo trains three hours each day of the weekend and sometimes after school. His dad told Legit he’s a “quick learner.”
“God knows the best but for me, I pray he goes far and should become a champion of his own when he grows up,” his father continued.
The boy’s exposure has already led to some opportunities. Sunday Dare, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, offered the five-year-old a scholarship after seeing the viral clips.
“I will be putting the baby in a boxing academy for further growth and also sponsor his education. Some financial stipends will be given for the upkeep of the lad as well,” Dare told Complete Sports.
Dare will provide Adeyemo the education and sports training near his residence in the Baruwa area of Lagos State. Adeyemo is building a solid following at home and online already — Instagram users are impressed with his practice sessions.
“This kid would knock me out. What a weapon,” one user said.
“Kid is on fire! Very bright future ahead. Keep doing the great work and hopefully he will make it one day,” another said.
“Dang lil man is better than half the people out there. Mad respect,” one person said.
