Woman discovers stranger’s ‘petty’ note in thrifted purse: ’Wait ‘till I tell you what was inside’

Many people love to share the many “thrift finds” they buy after a visit to a secondhand store. One woman took to TikTok to share how she uncovered $300 — and tons of juicy family drama — inside a purse that she thrifted.

TikToker @marthainfused shared the following clip detailing the contents of her thrifted Coach bag. She purchased the bag at her local Goodwill for only $6.99.

“Wait ’till I tell you what was inside,” @marthainfused said.

In the video, @marthainfused explained that she found the hidden money when she began cleaning the bag. When she pulled up the bottom flap of the purse, she found a paper envelope with $300 in cash. As she showed the money envelope to the camera, she unwrapped the paper to reveal a letter from the previous owner.

The letter revealed that the previous owner of @marthainfused’s thrifted Coach bag was a mother who seems to have passed away some time ago. The mother’s note is bitter and reveals tons of tea about her family.

“I have three children. They will give my things to Goodwill when I die,” @marthainfused read. “So I put their inheritance inside all my favorite things.”

The mother also spilled on the origins of the Coach bag. In the letter, she jokes that the bag was a “gift” from her “husband’s girlfriend” — or rather, items that the girlfriend left behind when she rushed to leave the house since the mother returned from a trip earlier than expected.

“She must have left quickly because she forgot her bag and shoes,” the letter read. “I carried this bag every day. I wonder if my husband ever knew this was his girlfriend’s.”

The letter concludes with the mother explaining that she is donating the Coach purse to a thrift store because none of her children want it. Although the mother didn’t describe her relationship with her children in detail, the petty act of hiding a portion of their inheritance in the bag is enough to give viewers an idea of the family’s dynamic.

“So, go buy yourself a new bag!” the letter concluded. “Love, Martha.”

Viewers couldn’t believe that such a dramatic and juicy history came with the thrifted purse.

“I can’t decide what’s better. The story or hiding the inheritance or all this for $6.99,” a TikToker commented.

“Run back to see if Martha had anything else,” someone joked.

“Martha is my kinda petty. Rest In Peace, Martha,” another wrote.
