Here’s how to pay your favorite creators with the TikTok tip jar

TikTok has launched a new way for users to support their favorite creators.

Usually, influencers earn money through sponsorships, merchandise and the TikTok creator fund. But not everyone has access to TikTok’s fund which is only reserved for its most successful creators, like Charli D’Amelio and Bella Poarch. Other influencers even solicit donations to their Venmo or Cash App to make money. Now those users won’t need third-party apps to do so. TikTok has begun to roll out its tips feature to allow its creators to receive direct payments from followers.

What is the tips feature on TikTok?

TikTok tips are a way for supporters to donate money straight to the creators they love.

Influencer Jera Bean noticed the new feature appear in her settings last October.

“Tips let viewers fund your creativity and show their support by sending you payments. Tips will go directly to you and no money will go to TikTok,” the description of the feature read

This isn’t the first time TikTok has enabled users to support their favorite creators. TikTok also tested a “Gifts” feature that allows people to purchase gifts via TikTok that sends them to the influencer. However, TikTok receives a cut of those earnings.

How to get the tips feature on TikTok

The tips feature is only available to users with at least 100,000 followers who meet TikTok’s age requirement, are in good standing on TikTok and follow the community guidelines.

Interested and qualified users must apply to get the feature by locating the application in their settings. TikTok will notify you to activate the feature after it approves your application.

TikTok approved Bean’s application and now she has a tips link on her profile page. The minimum tip is $1 and followers can also send tips anonymously.

So far tips is only in its testing phase so who knows if it will become a permanent staple.
