Sabrina Smith (@probablyketo) is a self-described “hot mess mom” who follows a keto diet. Smith recently shared a video revealing her genius keto-friendly lunch hack for ordering at Jersey Mike’s: Order a “sub in a tub!”
In her video, Smith reveals exactly what happens when you order a “sub in a tub” at Jersey Mike’s. The video begins by showing Smith’s Jersey Mike’s lunch order, still in its plastic packaging. She then removes the lid to reveal a cardboard container full of meat, cheese and avocado.
“I got the Italian with avocado and extra meat,” Smith explains.
Smith’s Italian “sub in a tub” comes with provolone, ham, prosciuttini, cappacuolo, salami, pepperoni, lettuce, tomatoes, banana peppers, mayonnaise, mustard, oil, vinegar and avocado, all piled on top of each other.
One thing it doesn’t contain? Bread!
The ketogenic diet (or “keto” for short) is a diet in which followers eat high-fat, low-carb foods with the goal of entering a metabolic state known as ketosis, which can aid in weight loss. Many people who follow a keto diet avoid eating bread, as it is high in carbohydrates.
Eating at sandwich restaurants like Jersey Mike’s can be tricky for keto dieters because of the prevalence of bread and, therefore, carbs. But Jersey Mike’s “sub in a tub” has all of the delicious sandwich ingredients and none of the bread, making it perfect for anyone on a keto diet.
‘I didn’t know they had these!’
TikTokers couldn’t get enough of Sabrina’s “sub in a tub” video.
“Yes! Tried this over the weekend. I inhaled every bite,” one TikToker wrote.
“OMG I didn’t know they had these! I love Jersey Mike’s! Thank you!” another enthusiastic viewer responded.
Another TikToker asked, “So… do you go in and ask for a sub in a tub? I’m afraid of what might come out.”
To which Smith responded, “Yeah, you just say whatever sub you want and say, ‘in a tub!’ They will know.”
Whether you’re grabbing a sub at Jersey Mike’s or making your own sandwich at home, the “sub in a tub” hack is a great way to enjoy your favorite sub without breaking your keto diet!
