Resurfaced prop from ‘Titanic’ reignites infamous debate: ‘There is room for 2 on there’

A TikTok video about the infamous wooden panel in Titanic has people debating, once again, if Jack and Rose both could have fit on it.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet famously played the star-crossed lovers who meet on the doomed-to-sink Titanic ship. In the film’s final scenes, as the Titanic crashes, Rose floats on a wooden panel (many believe it was a door) and survives. Meanwhile, Jack remains in the water and freezes to death. Since the blockbuster premiered in 1997, people have argued that Jack could have easily joined Kate on the panel and survived.

But now that people finally see the size of the slab of wood, some opinions are changing.

“Did you know the wooden panel used in the movie Titanic is located in Disney Springs?” the video by @jtallan asked.

The clip showed the ornately carved piece of weathered wood in a glass casing. It looked about half the size of a door. Not particularly big at all.

“Maybe there wasn’t room for two of them. Looks a lot smaller,” someone commented

“I will always say there is room for two on there,” one person wrote.

“He tries to climb on, and it tips … They literally address this in the movie,” a TikToker said.

Others were shocked that the wood wasn’t a door or a piece of a fireplace.

“Wooden panel? No, it was a door, and it was rectangular,” another said, refusing to change their tune.

“Yeah, one person only. I was wrong all these years,” a user replied, admitting defeat.

In 2019, director James Cameron settled the infamous debate. According to Vanity Fair, Cameron said, “It’s just stupid. There’s no debate. But if you really want to unearth all the dumba** arguments associated with it, I mean, let’s go back. I mean, yes — could Romeo have been smart and not taken the poison? Yes. Could he have decided not to bring his little dagger, just in case Juliet might stab herself with it? Yes, absolutely. It sort of misses the point.”
