TikTokers are calling out their ‘toxic’ workplaces and the stories are harrowing

One of the latest TikTok trends has users calling out their current or former workplaces for their toxic environments.

Lindsay Hanson, a professional life coach, started the trend by asking her followers to tell her “the moment you realized your workplace was toxic AF.”

“Mine was when I asked my senior [teammate] to come eat lunch with me and he said he can’t because he didn’t want people to see him ‘taking a lunch break,'” Hanson shared.

Her initial TikTok racked up over 4,700 comments, as well as tons of #stitch replies of users lamenting their own toxic workplace experiences.

A TikToker named Danielle shared that she never took her hour-long lunch break at her old job, always opting for a quick desk lunch instead.

“I always worked through lunch, addressing anything that came up,” she said. “Once I left the office 10 minutes early, I got ripped a new one.”

Another user, @bbbonz, shared that as a teen, he had worked at a gas station with a coworker named Mary, who had been employed there for 20 years.

“She had always worked the same days, same evenings during the week, had never ever worked a Saturday,” @bbbonz said.

Apparently, according to the “small print” in their contracts, employees at the gas station were supposed to request off any days they couldn’t work, including weekends — so it came as a surprise to Mary when she discovered she has been scheduled to work on her first Saturday in 20 years, which happened to be her son’s wedding day.

“The boss knew her son was going to get married on the coming Saturday, and he scheduled her to work, and said, ‘Oh, well you didn’t ask for it off, so you have to do it,'” the user revealed. “And rather than beg, she told [the boss] to f*** off and walked out. Good on ya, Mary.”

User @indigosjourney said her toxic work experience was “probably when I was giving birth and I got a call from my boss asking if I was gonna have my report turned in and if I was coming back the following day.”

Another user, @leeann9913, shared that when she was first trying out a menstrual cup, she bled through her pants at work and was not allowed to go home to change clothes.

“I was two hours away from home, so no one could bring me pants,” she said. “And I wasn’t allowed to leave, so I was forced to work a 12-hour shift in bloody pants. It was disgusting.”

TikToker Shannon Davis probably took the cake here with her story of someone at her workplace coming up to her while she was eating lunch and sticking their hands “directly in her food” and eating it off her plate.

“But I’m a stay-at-home mom so I don’t think I can quit…” she joked.
