Twitter goes off on J-Lo’s Golden Globes dress

Jennifer Lopez strolled onto the red carpet for the 77th Golden Globes Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif., and immediately had Twitter talking.

Lopez, who starred alongside Constance Wu, Julia Stiles and Keke Palmer in the 2019 film “Hustlers,” wore a strapless gown with an enormous green and gold bow while flaunting a braided bun and emerald diamonds from jeweler Harry Winston.

The statement look — purportedly from Valentino Haute Couture — provoked a number of strong reactions from the New York Times (the paper’s Arit John and Sanam Yar jokingly wrote, “Jennifer Lopez has arrived dressed as a giant present”) and especially Twitter, where some users were even less forgiving.

“Jennifer Lopez looks like she tripped and fell backwards through a Michael’s,” Chase Mitchell, a former “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” writer, tweeted

“I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jennifer Lopez, but tonight’s gown is a mess,” another person tweeted. “The braided bun is a NO, too. It hurts me more to even type this.”

But at least one person actually dug the daring look.

“Jennifer Lopez comes dressed as a Christmas present and still looks like the most stunning human on earth,” the user tweeted

Lopez has been nominated for best supporting actress in a motion picture for her role as Ramona in “Hustlers.”
