TikTokers are trying and failing at karaoke without lyrics

Most of the time, the downfall of a karaoke set is when somebody who can’t sing tries to hit a note that the actual artist hits in the song. While not the best, it’s understandable.

However, TikTokers are taking karaoke fails to the next level. The latest trend on the app is to sing karaoke without the words in front of you. Currently, the hashtag #karaokewithoutlyrics has over 12.5 million views.

Participants are in front of the camera, with the lyrics visible to everyone but them. While it’s been tough for some people, it’s been entertaining to watch for all of us.

Some people start the song with the right words, just not on time with the actual song. Here, Caitlin Bain (@caitlinbain0) recorded her people attempting to sing Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball,” John Legend’s “All of Me” and Drake’s “One Dance.” Yet none of them could get in lockstep with the recording.

The highlights of the challenge are when users start to sing a different song than the chosen one.

Despite Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone” playing, @danielle.266 began singing “My Life Would Suck Without You.” She was on the right track, as “My Life Would Suck Without You” is also by Kelly Clarkson, but she still failed hilariously.

Many of the songs chosen are top hits or cultural staples, which makes for great content when the person doesn’t know the song.

This challenge shows that great karaoke takes next-level knowledge of the song and that maybe we don’t know our favorite tunes as well as we think.
