Watch this 2-year-old give a pizza guy the hug he needed

A pizza deliveryman got exactly the surprise he needed while bringing food to a family in Rhode Island.

Lindsey Sheely, who lives in the town of West Warwick, ordered dinner from a local chain called Wicked Good Pizza on Feb. 15, Today reported. Thanks to her security camera and Cohen, her two-year-old son, the delivery order turned into something far from ordinary.

“Last night when we got our pizza (and ranch) delivered, Cohen ran out to hug the delivery guy and tried to give him a kiss, too!” Sheely wrote in a Facebook post sharing the security footage. “We thought it was so sweet and funny, then realized that our doorbell might have caught the interaction on camera, and it did!!”

The heartwarming clip shows Cohen embrace the delivery man as he’s leaving the house, something Sheely said was totally out of character for her son. What Sheely and Cohen didn’t know at the time, though, was that the pizza worker, Ryan Catterson, had recently lost his own child.

Last night when we got our pizza (and ranch) delivered, Cohen ran out to hug the delivery guy and tried to give him a kiss, too! 😂 We thought it was so sweet and funny, then realized that our doorbell might have caught the interaction on camera, and it did!! I hope it gives you a laugh and warms your heart like it did for us 🥰❤️ Even better, is that I posted this to my IG stories last night and somehow, it found it’s way to the man who delivered our pizza! Thank you, Ryan, for being so sweet with our little guy!Update: little did we know what Cohen’s hug to this stranger would mean. Someone showed Ryan the video I posted to my IG, so he messaged me, and I found him on FB so he could share the video. Through this, we found out that Ryan unexpectedly lost his daughter recently, and that hug from Cohen was a little blessing from God. I believe in divine appointments and know that Ryan was the one to deliver our pizza for a reason. If you feel inclined, please consider donating to his GoFundMe to help with funeral costs. My heart is so heavy for this family 😔 anything to help lighten the burden, I know, will be greatly appreciated ❤️https://www.gofundme.com/f/alyssa039s-servicefamily-travel-expenses?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1

“There is no practical reason that Cohen hugged the delivery guy,” Sheely told Today about the chance encounter. “I think God just uses the innocent love of children to bring hope and light where He knows it’s needed.”

Sheely had no clue who Catterson was — let alone that his 16-year-old daughter had recently died — when she shared the video on social media. It wasn’t until several days later that Catterson found the clip and messaged her on Instagram.

“He wanted to let me know just how much he needed that hug that night,” Sheely told Today. “We are beyond grateful to know that our little boy’s hug had such an impact on [Catterson] and his family.”

Now Sheely’s video is going viral on Instagram and Facebook, where it has been viewed more than 40,000 times. The mom wrote in her posts that she hopes the clip can bring at least some positivity to Catterson’s tragic situation.

Catterson’s daughter, Alyssa, passed away “unexpectedly,” according to a GoFundMe created in her honor. The page, which has now raised more than $17,000, aims to help pay for funeral costs and other expenses related to her passing.

In her Facebook post, Sheely implored people inspired by the video to help out in any way they could.

“My heart is so heavy for this family,” she wrote. “Anything to help lighten the burden, I know, will be greatly appreciated.”
