Wedding planner calls out guest who RSVP’d for 20 people: ‘Don’t do this’

A wedding planner is calling out people who RSVP for additional guests.

TikToker Sarah Angelique is a Calif.-based wedding planner. She shared an invitation where a guest RSVP’d for 20 people. Of course, most of the guests were not actually invited to the wedding in the first place. Angelique explained why trying to slip in even just a plus-one can be thoughtless to the bride and groom.

“This person RSVP’d for 20 people,” she explained. “I can almost assure you that the envelope was not addressed to 20 people. Don’t do this. Don’t do this.”

The invitation had a list of guests scribbled into the white space. It said “14 adults + 2 more” as well as “3 (kids) + 1 more.” Two of the children were listed as ages 18 months and 23 months. Angelique told people not to ask the bride and groom for additional guests because, basically, it’s inconsiderate.

“Someone else’s wedding is not your chance to have a nice night out. It’s not your chance to date,” Angelique emphasized. “If you have a partner, of course, they should be included in your invitation. But this is not your chance to have, like, a first date with someone.”

Using someone else’s wedding as a fine dining experience is pretty much like using the bride and groom to bankroll your leisure time.

“Definitely don’t be this person,” she said. “I’ve had to make an uncomfortable call when I got an RSVP similar to this, but it was only, like, eight extra people — 20?”

People shared their dismay at the thought of RSVP’ing for so many.

“I would have uninvited the original people,” one person said

“People have nerve, but as the bride, I’d have more. Just say no,” another wrote

“I would have lost my mind if someone did this to me when I was getting married. It would have pushed me over the edge,” someone added
