What happened to MAGCON, the pack of Vine-famous teenagers?

Old school Viners have to remember MAGCON, a meet and greet where you could spend time with your favorite influencers face-to-face.

The convention featured Vine’s most popular teen heartthrobs during its short stint from 2013 to 2017. While MAGCON may seem like a small blip in pop culture history, it helped to launch the careers of some of its members, like Shawn Mendes, Cameron Dallas and Nash Grier. Here’s where the boys of MAGCON are now.

What is MAGCON?

MAGCON is shorthand for “meet and greet convention.” Single dad Bart Bordelon came up with the idea for the festival to capitalize on the popularity of internet celebs. Fans could pay from $30 to $150 for the chance to meet Vine stars. The convention ran annually for from 2013 to 2017.

Which Vine stars were members of MAGCON?

The first MAGCON tour in 2013 included Matthew Espinosa, Aaron Carpenter, Carter Reynolds, Cameron Dallas, Nash Grier, Hayes Grier, Shawn Mendes, Jack Johnson, Jack Gilinsky and Taylor Caniff.

But by 2014, Mendes, Reynolds, Dallas, Hayes and Nash had parted ways with MAGCON.

Where are the stars of MAGCON now?

Nash Grier

Grier was just 16 when he joined MAGCON. These days he’s a 23-year-old father. He welcomed baby boy Malakai Giavasis-Grier with his fiancée Taylor Giavasis in 2019. Grier and Taylor began dating in 2015 and got engaged in 2019.

Nash is slated to star in the film IM/Mortal and has stuck to acting and modeling gigs for the most part.

Aaron Carpenter

Carpenter signed a record deal with Capitol Records in 2019. He has since released the singles “No Control” and “You” while maintaining an online presence.

Cameron Dallas

In 2016, the actor and singer starred in the reality series Chasing Cameron. But in 2019, Dallas revealed he had substance use issues and had spent two years in rehab. In January 2020, he appeared as Aaron Samuels in Mean Girls the Broadway musical.

Shawn Mendes

Mendes was able to break into the mainstream with his music. The singer-songwriter has released four studio albums and headlined several world tours. Besides opening up for Taylor Swift and scoring a no. 1 hit with “Señorita,” with the 2020 album Wonder Mendes became the youngest male artist to top the Billboard 200 with four albums. He has been dating fellow pop singer Camila Cabello since July 2019.

Taylor Caniff

Since MAGCON ended, Caniff started a YouTube channel and grew his following on Instagram. He also has an NFT and cryptocurrency project.

Jack Gilinsky and Jack Johnson

Gilinsky and Johnson became the music duo, Jack & Jack. The pair released the first full-length album A Good Friend Is Nice in 2019. Gilinksy released his first solo track “My Love” in April 2020 while Johnson dropped his first solo single “You Lie” in September 2020.

Carter Reynolds

Reynolds stuck to what he did best and became a social media star with a huge following of 2.6 million on Instagram.

Matthew Espinosa

The actor and influencer amassed millions of followers with his comedy content. In 2016, he appeared in the film Be Somebody.
