Actor Jaden Michael is is on the rise. The 17-year-old Afro-Latinx is nabbing roles left and right, it seems.

After starring roles in “Wonderstruck” and “Vampires vs. The Bronx,” he’s set to play a young Colin Kaepernick in Ava Duverney’s limited series about the football player and civil rights activist

The up-and-comer has 17,100 followers on Instagram as of writing — but that’s probably about to change!

How old is Jaden Michael?

Michael is 17 years old. He was born on October 5, 2003 in New York City. His family is from the Dominican Republic, a Spanish-speaking island in the Caribbean.

“There are so many Latin American and Caribbean stories to be told and the proof comes from the countries themselves, I know first hand that the film industry in the Dominican Republic is just absolutely booming with content, there are so many excellent Dominican films I’ve seen,” Michael told Popular TV.

He’s an actor who has appeared in a number of major shows.

Michael has been popping up on your screen for a while now. He had a recurring role as Rafe in Baz Lurhmann’s Netflix musical series “The Get Down” and started alongside Viola Davis and Ellen Burstyn in “Custody.” He also voices the cartoon worm Lucas on Amazon’s “The Bug Diaries.”

Most recently he starred as Miguel Martinez in the 2020 gentrification-as-horror film “Vampires vs. The Bronx,” produced by SNL’s Lorne Michaels and directed by Osmany “Oz” Rodriguez.

Jaden Michael was cast in Netflix’s Colin Kaepernick series from Ava Duvernay.

But Michael’s next role is pretty major. He’ll star as a young Colin Kaepernick in “Colin in Black & White.”

“I couldn’t be more ecstatic to tell the story of the Legend, the Leader, the All-Star, Collin Kaepernick. Thank you,” Michael said on Instagram.

The limited series will focus on the San Francisco 49ers childhood as an athlete and as a mixed-race child adopted by a white family. Kaepernick will narrate, while Ava Duvernay will produce, as well as direct the first episode.

I never thought I would be casting a young me in a show about my life. I can’t wait for the world to see @ItsJadenMichael be an all-star on @netflix,” Kaepernick tweeted

Kaepernick drew national attention in 2016, when he alleges he was fired by the NFL for kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial inequality and police brutality. We’re eager to see Michael play him.
