TikTok has caused a rapper’s unexpected verse to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. 

Move over “abcdefu,” another song from the app is making waves on the music charts. Rapper Ktlyn Raps scored viral success when she jumped on a remix of the artist Russ’ track “Handsomer” via a TikTok duet. Her version became the official remix of the single which reached No. 1 on U.S. iTunes and No. 59 on the Billboard Hot 100. Here’s how it all went down.

Ktlyn Raps is a rapper from San Diego. She has 1.8 million followers on TikTok and 172,000 followers on Instagram

She’s known for adding her own verses to popular songs like Justin Bieber’s “Peaches.”

When rapper Russ was looking to include another artist on the “Handsomer” remix, he opened it up for submissions on TikTok. Ktlyn Raps tossed her hat in the ring

Her verse received over 23 million views on TikTok. Russ released her version as the official remix and people are loving it. 

According to Spotify Stats, the remix debuted at “No. 39 on the daily US Spotify Chart, with 393,265 streams” on March 9. 

Adding that “Between its original and remix versions, ‘Handsomer’ received 662,402 streams on today’s US Spotify Chart. If combined, it would have charted at No. 6 today.”
