If you have yet to get hit by a snowstorm this year, there’s nothing like being prepared with a good pair of snow boots. Winter officially kicks off on Dec. 21, and according to the 2020 Farmer’s Almanac, this season will be a cold and snowy one.
The Farmer’s Almanac, which predicts the weather for seven U.S. zones up to 16 months in advance, reported back in August that the worst conditions will hit during the last week of January through the beginning of February. “Our extended forecast is calling for yet another freezing, frigid, and frosty winter for two-thirds of the country,” Editor Peter Geiger wrote on its website.
With that in mind, whether you consider yourself a snow bunny or only plan to only leave your house for errands, a solid pair of snow boots will definitely come in handy.
Google recently released its most-searched-for accessories and apparel leading up to the holidays and it’s no surprise that six out of 10 products are snow boots. The most searched for item in the entire category was, in fact, the Columbia Ice Maiden II boots (shown below). However, all of the boots are popular for similar reasons: for their ability to keep feet warm and dry, and for having great traction to prevent the wearer from slipping and falling.
Check out Google’s most searched for and popular boots below and prepare yourself for the worst of the elements.
1. Women’s Columbia Ice Maiden II, $60.57 on Zappos (originally $79.95)
The Columbia Ice Maiden II boots are Google’s most searched for snow boots this year, and also an Amazon best-seller with over 5,000 reviews and nearly 5 out of 5 stars. They’re toted for being lightweight and comfortable with extra cushioning, as well as having Columbia’s Omni-Grip advanced traction rubber sole to prevent you from slipping, according to the product description. Combined with waterproof leather and insulation, your feet will stay warm and dry in even the worst of conditions. Although not on sale, you can also find them on Amazon in more colors and sizes!
2. Men’s The North Face Chillkat Evo Boots, $129.95 on Zappos
For men, the most searched for boot comes from The North Face, and on Zappos, this pair has a 5 out of 5-star rating. The North Face Chillkat Evo Boots will keep your feet warm and dry with 200g Heatseeker insulation and a durable TNF Winter Grip rubber outsole with temperature-sensitive IcePick lugs for the best traction in slippery snow and ice, according to the product description. Shop more boots by The North Face on Amazon.
3. Women’s Sorel Tivoli Boot, $129.99 at DSW
These boots are so popular, it seems they are sold out in several sizes on most sites like Amazon and Zappos. However, we found them in two colors at DSW. Sorel is known for creating durable and waterproof winter boots, and the Tivoli Boot is no exception (plus it’s pretty stylish!). The faux fur and fleece lining will keep your feet feeling cozy, whether you’re commuting to work or running errands in the snow.
4. Women’s Columbia Minx Snow Boot, $120 on Amazon (Get up to 30 percent off, depending on size)
The Columbia Minx Snow Boot is 1-inch taller than the Ice Maiden boot mentioned above, which makes it great for trekking through deep snow and slush. According to the product description, the boot is constructed with an Omni-Tech waterproof, breathable membrane for keeping your feet warm in even -25° F temperatures. Plus, it has a stylish faux fur collar and tongue with an outer reflective lining.
5. Men’s and Women’s Columbia Bugaboot Snow Boot, $145 on Columbia.com
The Bugaboots come in a few different variations, but the best-rated on Columbia’s website has to be the Bugaboot Plus IV Omni-Heat Boot for both men and women. According to the product description, it’s an update on the classic Bugaboot (which retails for $99.95 — $45 less) and has a waterproof outer lining made of leather, nylon and webbing. The biggest improvement, it seems, is that these shoes are going to keep your feet warm even in sub-zero temperatures, which is much appreciated if you plan to be sticking your feet in the snow for a while in between sledding, snowman-making and other snow activities. Shop the Women’s Columbia Bugaboot Plus IV Omni-Heat in three colors and the Men’s Bugaboot Plus IV Omni-Heat in three colors.
6. Men’s Muck Arctic Boot, $149.95 on L.L. Bean
These no-frill snow boots are popular for a few reasons. According to the product description, the waterproof neoprene and rubber outer construction keep your feet warm by comfortably wrapping around your foot and calf and sealing out the cold air. A thermal foam on the inside insulates the feet and protects them from the cold ground. Plus, an outer toe bumper with molded lugs will keep you from falling in the most slippery terrains. (L.L. Bean offers free shipping on orders over $50, so these boots ship for free!)
