Murphy is a TikToker who recently went on a particularly unimpressive coffee date. The date was so bad, she took to TikTok immediately after to share her story. The bad date story has racked up more than 5.4 million views and had TikTokers bemoaning her date’s laziness.

The video begins with Murphy sitting in her car in the parking lot of the coffee shop after the bad date.

“I just went on a coffee date for 20 minutes, and I got up and left,” she begins. “I walked in and the guy was sitting down, and he was already drinking his coffee.”

Murphy explains how she was a few minutes late for the date, so she joined her date at the table he had chosen.

“Then I look at the line, and the line is out the door around the block,” she recalls. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, the line’s so long.’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, I know. The line’s crazy.’”

Murphy looks into the camera incredulously, sharing that she was surprised that her date didn’t have the presence of mind to order her a coffee — or to offer to wait in line with her.

“I’m like, ‘OK, well, maybe I’ll wait for it to die down and we can get up there,’” she says.

But the line never dies down. Every time Murphy checks, the line is just as long.

“He goes, ‘Well, you can wait in line. I could come with you but we might not have this seat, and I like the seat,’” Murphy recalls. “At this point, I’m just so confused why he didn’t offer to get me a coffee.”

“You asked me out on a date. You were pursuing me heavily,” Murphy says. “And you don’t get me a coffee? You don’t offer to wait in line for me to get a coffee? I’m just baffled.”

Murphy continues to make conversation for 20 minutes. Finally, Murphy tells her date that she’s going to leave and explains that she’s disappointed that he didn’t offer to get her a coffee. Though the man apologizes, Murphy has had enough.

A low bar for a date

“Don’t wait on a date if you’re not feeling it,” Murphy recommends as the video ends. “If you feel like this is a waste of your time, why endure it further?”

TikTokers were shocked the man didn’t offer to buy Murphy a coffee.

“Even a platonic friend or a coworker would have offered to pick one up for you,” one viewer wrote.

“Bar’s on the ground but he brought a shovel,” joked another viewer.

“Yeah, it’s a small thing, but it honestly says a lot about a person,” wrote another TikToker.

When it comes to dating, sometimes it’s the little things that mean the most.
