In the blink of an eye, Kitty Lever’s (@kittylever) trip to pilates class was derailed by a car accident after she took her eyes off the road for a second.
Lever was extremely nervous because the car she hit was a Tesla and anticipated a large bill coming her way. However, she was able to get out of paying for damages after the opposing lawyer saw her face.
“Two years ago, I fender-bendered a Tesla and the driver’s lawyer liked my driver’s license picture so much that he decided to pay for all of the damages and expenses,” Lever said.
At the time, she was driving a 2013 Ford Fiesta and was sure she’d have to pay a lot of money out of pocket.
“My life is literally over,” she said. “I’m going to have to move back home because they’re going to take everything I own.”
While she was preparing for the worst, Lever received a call from the other driver’s lawyer and got a different response than what she was expecting.
“He was like, ‘So I heard you hit my client, and I’m sure that was a really scary experience for you. She can be a little scary sometimes,’” Lever said. “I’m like, ‘Who’s lawyer?”
The lawyer, after telling Lever he saw her driver’s license picture, asked if she was an actress or a model. He then told her to stop by his office so that they could get everything taken care of — to which Lever was a little concerned. The offer felt similar to several testimonies from the #MeToo movement, which fought against sexual assault and harassment with public testimonies.
“Of course I’m a little concerned. Like what in the Harvey Weinstein, scary powerful people thing is going to happen to me,” Lever said.
Yet after meeting his assistant and walking to his office, she felt much better.
“He was like, ‘I just wanted to meet you in person. I took care of everything, so let me know if you ever need help in LA,’” she said.
She then revealed her driver’s license picture, which added to the reaction from the verbal part of the story.
“Pretty Privilege goals,” said @sashaztok.
“No u look so good in your drivers license picture,” replied @jennasinclair2.
Others in the comments also noted how their driver’s license picture could never work in their favor like Lever’s.
“My DL picture would make the lawyer charge me double,” said @kaleschipps.
“Oh i wish i was a blue eyed blonde,” said @daniella948.
With her driver’s license picture lauded by many, and the specific attorney, Lever was able to get out of paying for her mistake and continue on.
