I know I’m not alone when I say I’ve found it hard to stay motivated in 2020. My workout regimen is already lackadaisical, and we can probably all agree it gets difficult to muster up any passion when you’re distracted by the world — for lack of a better term? — falling apart around us.
And trust me, I’m not getting any ideas about “New Year’s resolutions” for 2021, either. If this past year has taught us anything, it’s that we’re just lucky to have made it to another ball drop. (I’m just simply trying to survive until the next one, TBH!)
That said, getting myself up, moving and out of my apartment has been great for my mental health this year. (Of course — it’s science.) So for those of us who plan on potentially changing out of sweatpants in 2021 and maybe doing some cardio or yoga, take it from me — cute athleisure is a major motivator.
Below, I’ve rounded up the best workout sets that might actually inspire you to work out in the new year. No pressure, though.
Honestly, tie-dye may have been the trend of the year. And you don’t need gloves and a DIY kit to get in on the action — this twist-hem, lightweight top with matching tie-dye biker shorts is the perfect homage to this long, weird year.
Not only is this shimmery, metallic ribbed fabric majorly cool, but it’s also majorly supportive. The medium-impact sports bra offers secure coverage and a wide underbust band, so your girls aren’t going anywhere if you know what I mean.
If there was ever a set that could get us back on our workout grind, it’s this one — how could you not be in the mood when you look like exercise Barbie?
I’m not kitten around when I say my Outdoor Voices sets have lasted me for years, and this leopard-print top with matching leggings is the cat’s meow. (Sorry, I’ll stop now.)
You may have previously seen me confess my adoration for inclusive, eco-friendly activewear brand Girlfriend Collective — and this limited-edition, earthy “Thyme” hue is already a new favorite of mine. (Just take all my money, GC!)
Shop: Nike Icon Clash Cutout Metallic Stretch Sports Bra, $40, and Icon Clash Metallic Dri-FIT Leggings, $85
We’re forever obsessed with sleek, wet-look sets, and this Nike sports bra with matching leggings is certainly a new go-to. Plus, both pieces are perfect for layering.
Quirky contemporary fashion brand Staud recently released a collaboration with New Balance, and the results didn’t disappoint. This long-sleeve turtleneck top is a must-have for chilly-day runs.
Ribbed-knit fabrics are having a major moment in the activewear world. And how cute is the contrast trip on this chic Splits59 set?
How to get motivated: Wear something you want to be seen in. While Wolford and Adidas’s collab is more on the pricier side, you’ll undoubtedly get a ton of wear out of the high-quality, timeless threads (aka, Wolford’s signature aesthetic).
Snakeskin-inspired pieces have been trending for a while, and this printed, bright-green set is an instant mood booster. Of course, the separates totally work on their own, too.
Shop: Old Navy Medium Support Printed Plus-Size Sports Bra, $19.97 (orig. $22.99), and High-Waisted Elevate Plus-Size 7/8-Length Leggings, $29.97 (orig. $32.99)
ICYMI: Old Navy makes athleisure, and it’s good. You’ll be anything but invisible in this cute, pink camo print.
Shop: Torrid Black Leopard & Floral Lace Inset Racerback Wicking Active Sports Bra, $29.70 (orig. $49.50), and Black Leopard & Floral Lace Inset Racerback Wicking Active Leggings, $38.70 (orig. $64.50)
This ultra-girly floral-leopard print is everything I didn’t know I needed. Plus, lace insets and wicking technology will keep you cool for those of us who tend to overheat during workouts. (Ahem.)
