Sometimes, you just need to get away from life’s everyday stresses, whether it be work, family drama, social media — whatever. For some, the best way to unwind is going somewhere remote, in nature, where you feel compelled to turn your phone off. OK, camping isn’t for everyone (this editor included). But you can go “glamping” in a tiny cabin in the middle of the woods with Getaway.
Getaway is a company offering cozy cabins just a two-hour drive outside of many U.S. major cities, from New York to Houston to Seattle. The cabins are just big enough for up to four people — kids included — and you can bring your dog for a small extra fee. However, many couples find it to be perfectly romantic for just the two of them.
Yes, the cabins are very tiny. Actually, think of it as a tiny home that’s like a remote, professionally run Airbnb. Each one features a bed, kitchen, heat, air conditioning, a toilet, hot shower, clean linens, a provisions box, biodegradable shampoo and soap, and more. Outside, there’s even a fire pit with a grill grate, chairs and a picnic table.
The company also mentions that there isn’t great cell phone service at each of its outposts. It even provides a cell phone lockbox if you so dare to completely disconnect. In case of emergencies, though, there is a landline in the cabin.

The biggest thing you’ll notice is that every Getaway cabin features a signature large window next to the bed. This is perfect for peering out into the woods and completely immersing yourself in nature. You may have seen this setup on Instagram. It’s actually really beautiful.
Going to a Getaway cabin has been on my list for a while now. My best friend and her hubby recently went with their golden retriever and raved about how nice it was. They spent the day hiking, cooked over the fire at night and said it was a great way to unwind outside of the city.
Plus, Getaway isn’t crazy expensive. Prices are comparable to a hotel and will vary based on the time of year, how far out you book and the area to which you’re traveling. Rates start around $99 and can go up to $359 or so. There is also a two-night minimum stay on weekends, as well as on weekdays if you book 60-plus days out. However, you’ll definitely want to stay at least two nights to soak it all in.

Once you book, Getaway will send you the exact address with directions on how to get to your chosen outpost. While it’s remote by design, there will be a few other cabins in the area. So you may stumble upon other guests while out exploring or be able to see them through the trees.
Speaking of trees, there are studies that show being around them and in nature, called forest bathing, can make you feel calmer. So, if you decide to book your Getaway, get ready to come back feeling well-rested, restored and perhaps just a little less stressed.
